- A disease of the meninges, caused by an infection with the gram-positive bacteria genus Streptococcus. This disease commonly presents with nausea, vomiting, photophobia, and confusion. Transmission is through haematogenous spread to the meninges after inhalation of infected respiratory secretions. C
